Looking Back: Moving Mountains at the World Talent Forum 2014

On September 25th,the annual World Talent Forum 2014 took place in the Allianz Arena. More than 300 visitors from Germany and around the globe participated in this outstanding international HR-Event. As hosts, IntraWorlds was supported by our partners Promerit, IBM, and Bersin by Deloitte. Over the next couple of weeks, we will be releasing summaries around the five key topics; Active Sourcing, Candidate Relationship Management & Engagement, Talent Acquisition Strategy, Employer Branding & HR Marketing, and Corporate Alumni Management. Today, let’s focus on the highlights, which you can watch in our video as well.

Keynote

The event was opened by adventurer Reinhold Messner with his keynote “Moving Mountains”. In the presentation, he stressed the importance of pushing our limits in order to obtain new experiences and achieve the unthinkable. Over the years, Messner’s creativity and innovation allowed him to revolutionize alpine climbing. The parallel to the topic HR became particularly evident when he spoke about his ascent of the Himalaya. During the climb, the weather changed and his team came across a difficult storm, he had to push on and keep climbing rather than wait for the fear and the storm to subside. “Action is what carries us” he revealed “if you wait, your fear grows stronger.”

Many participants took this as encouragement to face the challenges, which are occurring in their HR departments. Just as Messner faced a change in weather, recruiters are facing a change in talent relationships. Previously applicants were the ones looking for jobs, yet now candidates must be actively approached in order to gain the best talents. And just as an adventurer, at this point it is extremely important to face this challenge head on and develop a new method of recruiting.
